Colossians 1:3-4
We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,
The older I get the more I appreciate those who can see blessings in simple things. I have grown weary of the infighting between Christians. I understand the need to have a certain set of beliefs, convictions, and quirks. I realize that God made us all a little different. He works in us individually. What I am tired of is the side splitting divides that are taking place over things that have no Biblical basis.
Things like tastes in styles, music, colors, hair, dress and even which school did you go to or even if you went to a school. Questions about who you listen to, follow, imitate, and promote. I have a hard time when a child of God can not rejoice over a blessing that another brother or sister in Christ receives, because they are not of the same stripe, breed, or fellowship.
Notice what the Apostle (under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit) says:
We give thanks;
The Apostle shows his gratitude. He demonstrates this in almost every greeting in each of his letters. I think that most Christians are not thankful! We get the idea that we are the only ones that deserve to be blessed. The reason most of us are not more thankful is we are toddler like and not mature.
To God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We need to remember to whom we are to give thanks to! In the Army, we were instructed that we were to salute the "Rank" not the "man". I believe that w would do well to modify this when it comes to giving thank to whom thanks is do. We should "thank" God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! God has placed his servants where he wants them and when he blesses them we should recognize that God should be thanked for it all
Praying always for you.
I fail to heed this in my daily life. I forget to pray for others. God has surrounded me with people that are paving the way for me to do what God has called me to do. God has even used other that I would never have any spiritual dealings with to give us room to work His plan on Fort Benning. I will try to better to remember to give thanks to God for all of you!
Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus,
I know that we all have our opinion on what constitutes a true profession of faith. I know that some believe that if certain circumstances are not just right the person may or may not be "saved". I do know that if a person truly is saved he will be different! The Word of God is clear that a saved one is a new creature in Christ!
We need to encourage (not give false hope) to those who express faith in Christ Jesus. Since God deals with individuals in His own time, we should give thanks that someone has (a little) faith in Christ Jesus. There is plenty of time to instruct them in the right path (with the Spirits help).
And of the love which ye have to all the saints.
Even the Apostles had differences, but were able to learn to work together for the cause of Christ. They may have seperated over things that divided, but were able to be thankful for each others contributions to the cause of Christ. DO you love ALL the saints?
