My Shepherd!

Psalm 23:1
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Since we are supposed to be like the Lord, one of our jobs is to be a shepherd! I love the words of the Bible, God has placed them there for a reason, they paint a picture in vivid colors and are rich in meanings. God in nine small words conveys such deep care for His children. The Psalmist pens these words from the desk of experience.

The Lord;

Of course the writer is pointing to the Lord Jesus Christ. I believe there are only two ways to speak the phrase "The Lord". If we willing put our self under the watch care of a precious benefactor, that loves and cares for us in every detail, we can use this term as an endearing term of love.

The other way is to be sold into slavery to a ruthless tyrant. We will be forced to submit in fear of punishment made to speak out of obligation. No love will exist, no care will be promised, no chance to move forward. The term "Lord" becomes a vile acidic word that on command spews out of our filthy mouths. Void of love!

The Lord is my shepherd;

The perfect shepherd has traits that we all would want, when it comes to the shepherd tending His sheep. I searched the Internet for the duties of a shepherd, I found a lot of interesting terms, like:

a person that herds: One that has the skills to bring a lot of wandering, straying animals (people) in a group, with a single focus and drive.

a person that tends and guards: One that renders care for every problem that we may face. Every care and want, every desire, dream, every trial and tribulation. One that provides safety, security, and protection. One willing to stand between hurt and productive living.

I found a few synonyms : protector, guardian, defender, keeper!

It is no surprise this first verse is so precious. The Lord is MY shepherd!

I shall not want;

No worry, no want! Everything I need is provided!!!

I pray that I can develop such a relationship with the Lord that I can be a good sheep, going on about daily with out worry, knowing that I have "The Shepherd"
