Psalm 53:1
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and they have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
As I read this verse, I found it very easy to fluff off the implications of it on certain types of people I have run across. This verse is one I could shout "Amen!" if the preacher would read it, because my mental image is of a down trodden, homeless, drug addict, cheating, stealing, smelly person. If you are like me, you would never apply this to your own life!
This morning as I cracked my Bible opened, the Lord began to hold His Holy mirror up in front of my face so I could see that in fact, this could be, and is indeed me that I need to see the most. I must be truthful! I have been and at times, I confess to my shame I am this fool! The good news is God wants to help me be less foolish as He helps me grow in His Word.
The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.
The word fool is defined as, "a silly or stupid person. A person who lacks judgment" I must confess I have never heard in a normal conversation anyone say I am a fool! I have thought this about myself and occasionally thought this about someone. As The Lord showed me a picture of myself in this verse I see the many occasions that I have been a "silly or stupid person." I do not gamble, yet I have registered to win some sweepstakes thinking that "IF" God would just tweak the results in my favor I would win money or a house or some sort of prize, it would make my life so much easier or would set me up for a great retirement. I one time did something so silly that showed my "Lack of judgment" I bought a coin operated laundry mat, totally out of God's will! It was a big flop.
We may never verbalize these words! but, sometimes we scream in our "heart, there is no
God!It is not the verbal words, but the words in our actions and attitudes that speak loud and clear. I do not want God to pronounce this terrible indictment upon me anymore, do you?
Corrupt are they,
The word corrupt has some interesting definitions too! Like; "guilty of dishonest practices, lacking integrity, crooked, debased in character, infected, tainted, decayed and putrid." Do any of these apply to your life, sadly I find a few that speaks volumes about my own life. What about yours? Enough said!
And they have done abominable iniquity:
I love the picturesque Words that God chooses to use. Abominable = "Repugnantly hateful, detestable, loathsome, very unpleasant, disagreeable, very bad, poor, or inferior." I have come to see a glimpse of just how ugly I am, in light of what God sees in me. I desire to keep myself close to the side of God, so I can reflect a better image to the lost world. The World needs to see Jesus Christ in and through me! How about you?
There is none that doeth good.
Apart from God our best is not good! My message to Christians this morning is the same message that the Lord showed me. I must see my self as the Lord views me, and I have the obligation to be a image of God for other to see. I do not want to be a fool! Do you?
