Proverbs 3:7-8
Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Just about the time you think you have worked out a solid schedule, everything falls apart! This morning was one of those times. I am sure enjoying the grand kids, but because they command my total interest (or is that the other way around?), so I am very late with blogging. Then I had to run to the V.A. clinic for the vampire to drain about four quarts or so of blood! (only 4 tubes), no damage just ate up my time.
I also was privileged to attend a memorial for Pvt. William A. Long. A recent graduate of Infantry Training at Fort Benning, who was gunned down in Little Rock, AR., by a wacko idiot that claims to be Muslim. (all for five minuets of fame on T.V!) I did good until the 21 gun salute, followed by the mournful strain of taps being played. I honored this Hero by rendering a hearty salute at the memorial in the chapel. My prayers go to this real Americans family (Dad, Mom, and Brother, all Veterans!)
But now it is quiet enough to give the most important One, my undivided attention!
Today's passage seems strange that God is interested in my belly button! The principal is a great revelation to us about the level of care God goes to to help us everyday.
This promise is special for all of God's children.
1. Be not wise in thine own eyes:
It is much easier on us to live our daily life by the rules, regulations, and guidance from our maker. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He made us so he know how to get the most and best from us. We can and will operate at our peak performance.
When we operate on our own outside of God, we get into trouble. We loose power, and performance abilities. So God gives us this nugget of advise in His owners manual (The Bible). What R.P.M. are you running at today!
2. Fear the Lord.
I have a friend that made a very profound statement to me once about his earthly father. He had seen a lot of hard trouble his Dad endured as a pastor. I asked him if he had ever done ant drugs, he answered that he had not! I pushed for an answer and he said; "I do not want to be the next one to hurt my Dad!" I wish we had that kind of reverence (fear) for our Heavenly Father! "God help me NOT to be the next one to hurt you!"
3. It shall be health to my navel.
My navel? Mine is an in-y not an out-y! (TMI). I read one commentary that suggested this word was a reference to the view, that the navel was the center of life. Makes sense that when we obey the Lord our life would be centered! God would provide everything we need to be sustained daily. We need to be connected to the source of life to enjoy the fullness of daily life.
The more time we devote to obeying the Word of God! the better our life will be. Have you examined your navel today? Better yet have you allowed God to examine your navel?
4. And marrow to thy bones.
Marrow is the conduit that provides our strength! God tells us that by obeying him, it places us in a position to receive His strength!
How cool is this? God tells us to obey! When we do we get in return a great "Belly Button" and "Strength" to do our very best.
