Fear Not.

2 Samuel 9:7-8
And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually, And he bowed himself.

I can remember the shear horror to be called to the Principal's office in High School. The long slow walk to the office was an agonizing one. My mind was racing trying to figure out which one of my misdeeds had been revealed. Fear caused my heart to sprint, my legs turned to rubber, the sweat poured off my brow like Niagara Falls.

upon reporting to the secretary's desk, the level of nervousness increased as my voice cracked, and my will broken, I was ready to blurt out a true confession of every detail of every sin I committed or was about to commit. It is amazing what fear will do to us!

Mephibosheth, more than likely was close to feeling these same reactions as he awaited the King. He must have had the look of a deer caught in the headlights. Fear gripped his heart, and now the moment of confrontation is at hand. What would be the fate of Mephibosheth?

The King enters the room, silence is thick, anticipation and attention is focused on the two characters, The King and the summoned one! This verse records the exchange for us to see. Every word spoken by the King is law! no changing the outcome is permanent! What will be the verdict?

1. And David said unto him,
The King speaks! This time the words of the King are specifically directed to the summoned one. There is no mistaking the fact just whom the King is talking to! History is being written as the King directs his words toward Mephibosheth.

God, likewise summons us into His presence regularly! God, the King of King's demands of us to show up so he can speak to us! I believe that the reason we do not respond to this summons is fear of being caught in sin before the Lord. The fact is the Lord has already caught us in our sin and desires to wipe away the infringements, with His loving kindness. I long for a new attitude, one that submits to every invitation the King of King's issues for me. I long to hear the Lord speak to me! Do You?

2. Fear not
God is in the business of calming all fear! He has provided for all the remeidy that redeems us to His side. He takes the fear that we all have and relieves it instantly as he speaks his precious words to us saying with great love; "Fear not!"

We can bring every fear into the great palace of love, knowing the King will make it better. Do you have fear? WHy not allow the Lord to tell you "Fear Not!"

3. I will surely shew thee kindness.
Most people are sceptical of any offer that sounds too good to be true! We have been burnt and lost a lot in deals gone wrong. When we stand in the presence of the King, to realize he has the power to do as he wishes, we stand awaiting our fate to be determined in a blink of the eye, Is it death the sentance we deserve or is ti life abundant that we do not deserve?

God speaks the word! "I will surely shew the kindness" The song writer wrote: "Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power, are you washed in the blood of the lamb?" So I ask the same; Have You?

4. Will restore,...and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
We can come to the King of King's! He will restore! All things are made new again. What a relief! What a fear buster! When I should be paying for my sins! the King restores me! I should be banished to the outer darkness left to rot on my own. The King invites me to eat the Bread of life.

Sometimes we get an invitation to eat once with someone special, we feel a great honor to be going out, a special occasion for sure!. But the King, whose word is law speaks and it is recorded, and is legally binding for eternity. God issues to his redeemed children an open invitation! "Thou shalt eat bread at my table continually!"

Have you made your R.S.V.P.? Is your place at the table set?
