2 Samuel 7:18
Then went King David in, and sat before the Lord, and he said, Who am I, O Lord God? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto.
I am not a patient person. My theme song seems to be "I am in a hurry to get there fast" I despise the Doctor's office where you wait and wait! This morning we are in a hotel in Columbus, Ohio. Becky asked to sleep in...so! here I am waiting. Does she not know that we could be doing something else? By the way I not sure what we would be doing if she was awake anyway...go figure!
David, of all people could argue that he was a very busy man. He was King and his nation was on the cutting edge of happening things. We are given a glimpse of a very precious quite moment.
1. David went in, and sat before the Lord.
To get the most out of our relationship with the Lord or for that matter, our relationship with others, we must invest time. On purpose we must make the effort to "Go In".
David has a purpose in his heart to get himself ready, set aside everything else and take valuable time to cultivate his relationship with the Lord.
David not only went in, he also sat! Sitting and enjoying the time and communication, fellowship and presence of the Lord is one thing I must learn to savor. In our fast paced world no body ever sits! In years gone by the homes were designed with sitting places. The proper sitting room, the porch, the patio, the living room (with no entertainment centers). How we need to install places in our lives to be able to just go in and sit with the Lord.
2. he said, Who am I, O Lord God?
The result of going in and sitting with the Lord is we will see that we offer God nothing! We are not of our self even worthy to be in the presence of the great Lord of heaven.
As we sit with the Lord we are absorbed into his realm. We begin to see our self as he see us, the true us. We cry out "Who am I, O Lord God?"
3. that thou hast brought me hitherto.
When we go in and sit with the Lord, we will review our life. We will discover that we are not what we used to be nor are we where we used to be. God is so good to us he allows us to see just how far he has lead us. He gives us his perspective on how we are doing in his master plan. (of course we fall short) He gives us encouragement to keep on keeping on! He is not done with us and for sure we are not finished in the transformation he desires of us.
As we spend time with the Lord God, we grow a little more like him. Have you "went in, and sat before the Lord" today?
