Colossians 4:2
Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
The subject of prayer is one of the most discussed topics and yet at the same time, at least in my own life and estimation the less practiced art in all Christianity.
The Apostle exhorts us (time and time again) to pray! Simply put prayer is time spent in close priviate, intiment conversation / relationship with the Lord. Prayer is a means to unload the weights that holds us back and re-loads us for the opportunities we may face in the near and far future.
Notice a few things from today's passage:
Continue in prayer,
The word "Continue" is defined like this; "To maintain without interruption.", "To remain in Existence.", "To resume after an interruption.."
I get frustrated with my own prayer life because I slip and fail in the approach. I do not place enough importance in the act itself. I find it difficult to "maintain without interruption"
Life is busy and my life is full of interruptions. I can go long periods of time without a single prayer being uttered, so I fail the second definition, my prayer life doesn't "remain in existence".
I do get blessed, because I do meet the definition that I can 'resume after an interruption.!
Prayer is a relationship, It does not cease to exisit because I fail to meet a self imposed limit or amount of time devoted to it. God is so good to us, he keeps an avanue open for us to always resume a prayer life with him!
And watch with the same
I found this: "We are also to watch in prayer. This immediately reminds us of the Lord Jesus' request to the disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane: Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. "they were not vigilant, and fell sound asleep. Not only are we to watch against sleep, but also against wandering thoughts, listlessness, and unreality. And we are to watch and see that we are not robbed of time for prayer."
The very last statement convicts my heart it speaks of a very hard lesson I need to learn.
I am to make sure nothing robs me of the time I need to take for prayer. I am asking myself do I allow myself to be robbed daily? how about you?
With Thanksgiving.
I try hard to convey my gratitude, but I would get a failling grade! I am thankful, but I also fail to express it. I take for granted the answers to my prayers. I take the credit when things are going my way. I need to develop a thankful trait in my daily life and in my constant prayer life!
I have so much to be thankful for. I need to show it more.
So, Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving:
With thanksgiving.
