Just Do It!

Philippians 4:9
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

"I hate mirrors!"... They tell the truth! A mirror reflects the true image, it allows us to see defects, wrinkles, spots, and any imperfections. The Apostle under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, makes a scary statement. He suggests that we step up to the Spiritual mirror of God's Holy Word.

A nationally known company adopted for its slogan the phrase "Just Do It". I am learning to turn wood on a lathe. It is scary sometimes when the hunk of firewood is hooked up to the machine and once turned on spins at over 2000 r.p.m. My mentor pokes at me and tells me to "Just Do It!" jump in and make something! He is right, I have had learned, and received enough instructions, I have heard and seen demonstrated the techniques to be able to Do it!

Let's look at this passage:

1. Those things, which ye have both.
In writing to this church the Apostles is aware of his own soon demise. His burden to see mature Christians take the reins and lead, is very intense. I understand how frustrated he is! He desires that the cause of Christ explodes in revival where countless souls are converted.

This portion of the verse tells us that there are two inseparable aspects to the challenge. You must take both, you can't choose one without the other.

1(a). Learned and Received.
Every Christian is responsible to be actively involved in learning more and more about the Lord Jesus Christ. In order to be most effective we must become the experts in knowing and experiencing the intimate details about our savior. We can take classes, go to seminars, revivals, fellowships, and camp meetings. We can hear the brightest and best preachers in the world all day long. we can imitate their actions, mimic their mannerisms, and still not get it.

In order to learn, and I mean really learn (be able to apply), we must receive the instruction. When I am taking a wood turning class if it is going to be profitable I must have a mind that is receivable to what is taught.

1(b). Heard and Seen.
One reason that most education is rejected it that we have not heard properly nor have we seen it correctly. The environment to learn must be focused, void of distractions. We need to be tuned in to the instructor. I had a professor that told us the first day of his class that he would stomp his foot when he covered a subject that would show up in a test. If you stayed focused on him we could do good on the exams. It is our responsibility to develop our daily relationship to God that we instinctively hear and see what God wants us to do.

2. Do!
In review, We are to learn and receive, We are to hear and see. Why? so that we can Do. The word do means to bring to pass, and or to carry out. God has always intended for His children to Do! God uses His children to bring to pass his wishes, He wants us to carry out His great commission. People need to be saved!

3. The God of peace shall be with you.
What a great incentive to DO! Who can be against us when God is with us? We are encouraged to know the God of peace! shall be with us as we Do.

I wonder as I go out today do I mirror what God wants me to mirror? Do We stand up to the image of God in our daily reflections? May God help us to take seriously the task that is before us to be His witnesses of Him to the world?
