Deuteronomy 8:4
Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
We are just days away from the opening of schools. The news is reporting that a tax holiday is this weekend, allowing us to purchase more for less, we save the percentage of the tax.
I walked Wall Mart the other day, the store was loaded with the typical "back to School" items. Pens, pencils, glue, paper, and folders, book bags. My children are grown and not in my house anymore, but the other day, the conversation turned to this subject. I was treated to a fashion show. I was amazed at the detail of what my grandchildren would wear the first day of school.
The fashion show, showcased the matching shoes, socks, skirts, shirts, hairband, and book bag! My Kids are thrifty and purchased these things on sale and have a plan that is reasonable to outfit the heard my grandchildren have become.
The verse today is a simple but important reminder to us to pay attention to the provisions God has given us.
Thy raiment waxed not old.
God's children have been in the desert for forty years. They did not have the modern day miracle of a discount store. They did not even have a means of financial support. They were completely at the mercy of God's providing hand.
This miracle reminds us that God is concerned in the smallest details of our everyday life. He is the best fashion designer, dressing his own with clothing that never gets old. This miracle is a physical miracle and not a spiritual miracle. God is in the business of giving His children blessings that are physical, tangible and practical.
This morning I will go to my overstuffed closet and pick out an outfit to wear, I will not give it a lot of thought. I have more than I need and I NEED to be more thankful to my beloved Father for giving me the raiment I have.
Neither did thy feet swell these forty years.
"My dogs are howling!" Most of us from time to time suffer from feet that swell for one reason or another. I tend to stand a lot and my feet hurt. I am a big man and have a few extra pounds that destroy my shoes quickly. I hate buying shoes, especially tennis shoes. I can not see the need to pay more than $10.00 to $20.00 for a pair of poorly made canvas and plastic. I do like to have a good pair of leather dress shoes. I know that a good pair of shoes properly fitted to my feet will help my feet deal with the abuse I subject them to.
Most of my shoes are less than 4 years old. I can not imagine that any of my shoes would last forty years. I have in the past wore my shoes longer that a couple of years and my feet were damaged. God reminds us that he even took care of their podiatry concerns,
If God is able to dress us and even take care of swelling feet, How much more should we be able to trust Him in everyday life? We serve the living God! He WILL take care of us!
Do You Have Swelling Feet? (if so....WHY?)
