Deuteronomy 8:11
Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day.
Do you remember the old T.V. show "Lost in space"; I can see the robot swing it's arms wildly and squawking loudly 'Warning, Warning, Warning, Will Robinson!" That was the first thought I had when I read this verse.
God is issuing us a very strong warning. God knows us and our tendencies to slip and totally forgetting to do what he wants us to do. My first reaction as a Christian is to deny that I would ever forget the Lord my God! I love Him and owe him so much, how can I or could I ever forget him?
A simple look into my life reveals a bunch of gross violations in doing what God wants me to do.
Just keeping His commandments are a tasking job. My flesh wants to go in one direction, my spirit in the opposite direction.
Keeping his commandments is not just a suggestion, or a goal to be obtained, it is a command! A command is not to be pondered or thought about, it is to be obeyed.
Our verse spells out clearly that it is not about keeping a set of lets say, 10 commandments, it is much more than that. Keeping his commandments must become a way of life, a heart desire, a consuming ideology.
God wants 100% of us!
