Psalm 32:6
For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.
The writer finally got the monkey off his back, He came clean with God and his soul was straightened out. The pressure of sin was now gone! "after a year of this impenitence, David came to the place where he was willing to utter the words that God was waiting for - I have sinned. - the whole shameful story came out like pus from an abscess. He receives instant assurance that the Lord had forgiven his sins. (Believer's Bible Commentary -W. MacDonald)
Because David's experience with answered prayer he boldly asserts the edict that "Every one that is godly"
It is not a hard thing to be goodly! No matter what sin that besets us frequently, we can regain the status of godly by seeking and asking for forgiveness for sins that we commit. We should plead to God for assistance to not repeat the offense and that we see our escape route before we sin against God. To be godly is to be in right relationship with God!
Pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found:
One preacher rightly said we need to keep short tabs when it comes to sin against God. David had allowed a long period of time to elapse and the rottenness of his sin was evident in his outward life! We can change the end result of how far we slide away from God because of sin, by simply confessing the indiscretion as soon as it is revealed in our heart and mind. (by the way God already knows when we sin!)
To discover the relief that a clean heart and conscience can make in our spirit is a bit overwhelming, but the benefits far out weigh the surprise that God was willing to forgive in an instant!
Confession of sin keeps back the "Flood of great waters" . Confession of our sins helps deter the destruction and damage caused by the feeble attempt to cover our own sin. One lie after another builds a mighty big heap of trouble, that has the potential of wrecking us and others that know us.
Because we are all sinners, we need to stand ready to confess our sin and seek God when he might be found!
