The Worthy Walk

Colossians 1:10
That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

It is ever present in the makeup of my life, I not sure why it seems to consume me like it does! I have a desire to be more than what is currently described as an common, everyday, run of the mill, garden variety Christian. I want to do my part and be counted worthy to carry the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Apostle prays that those that heard his words would walk a worthy path with the Lord Jesus Christ. We will look at this verse a little closer.

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing,

I see a couple of notable quirks in this passage. In simple instruction, the command is to walk in such a way that is ever pleasing to the Lord. I sure enjoy when my Grand kids are here, we walk and talk, I get to experience a unique vision from them, I see things from their perspective. These walks please me and is precious in my heart.

Second! I realize that in the word walk, we have a relationship word. If we run we miss a lot, the faster we go the more we miss. A walk is more than an exercise, it is an investment. Walking with God is a very profitable investment that pays in huge dividends.

When we walk with the Lord, in close relationship with him, we begin to imitate him in subtle ways, the closer we walk the more pleasing we become to him. I also see a goal in this verse, that allows us to gauge our progress, When we walk with him we should see that we are more pleasing to Him, and the easier it get to continue to please him.

Being fruitful in every good work.

While in our daily walk with God, we should be aware of our work for Him. We need to check to see if our labor for him pays off. Raising fruit is a time consuming task, it takes a lot of time to dress the tree to make it produce fruit. Some fruit trees take years to produce a crop. God desires that we be "fruitful" in every good work.

If you were to examine the work you did yesterday was it fruitful? Was it loaded with seeds that will multiply itself in days to come? Being fruitful has implications for generations to come. We must be fruitful! the lost world depends upon us!

And increasing in the knowledge of God.

Our walk should be worthy, it should be fruitful, and it should result in an increasing knowledge of God. When I walk with my Grand kids, I get to know them, their twists, turns, and thought process. I learn what colors they like, what smells they hate, what their attention is directed to and what they are not interested in at all.

All of this can be applied to our relationship with God. We increase, more and more in the working, intimate knowledge of God.

I ask myself this question: Do I walk worthy of the Lord, do I please him, am I fruitful in all good works, and am I increasing in the knowledge of God?
