Jeremiah 1:5
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Four Eyes! I admit it, when I was a kid, I called some of my class mates that wore glassed with this disparaging name.
Now I have paid the ultimate price as I am tethered to my own set of glasses that make me a four eyes, kind of guy. This morning I have found in the passage of scripture where God uses the personal pronoun... "I" four times in a single verse.
Before I formed thee.
I live in a world that is plagued with the obsession of time. I have been placed in this world with a given amount of time to be used. I will function within the time constraints that God imposed upon every human. When I ponder that God is not limited by time in any manner it blows my mind. God is eternal and functions in the total spectrum of eternity.
I knew thee.
He knew that at some point He would form me. What is hard for me to realize is that He knew me in eternity past and is involved with me in eternity present, and is in charge of my eternity future. God knows me better than I know myself. As I look back on my life I can not believe where I used to be, compared to where I am at right now. I can see clearly that God knew every twist and turns I would take to be able to be used by him now.
Before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee.
To think that God sanctified... (Set me aside for His exclusive use), before I was ready to pop out of the womb, makes me shudder. I know what kind of man I am, and what kind of man I have been. I know that I struggle with the flesh and world. I know I am more likely to stumble, than succeed. I am happy that God, has chosen to set me aside for His glory!
And I ordained thee a profit unto the nations.
I am not sure why God would choose to use me to proclaim His Gospel to the world. I am certain He could find better communicators but, he ordained me to preach. God has laid His hands on me and has thrust me out to the worlds (nations).
I think that it is a good thing that God gave me 4 "I" 's.
Do you have 4 "I" 's?
