Psalm 28:1
1Unto thee will I cry, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
As I work with the Soldiers at Fort Benning, they want a few things! They want to talk to me! They want me to listen! They want me to talk to them! The number one complaint if you boil it down to the basest level is they desire to be in a real relationship of communication.
The Psalmist bares his true feelings. He needs, and desires to enter into the sweetest relationship of conversation with the Lord God, of heaven. The best benefit of being born again into the family of God, is the privilege of entering the throne room of grace, being able to intimately speak all that is in and on our heart to our heavenly Father!
Unto the will I cry, O Lord my rock;
What a great affirmation! The knowledge that I can speak out to the Lord! The assurance that no matter where I am at He is within earshot of me! I understand the Psalmist as he adds the title to the precious name of the Lord: "My Rock;"!
I gain great assurance when I see the Lord as the rock of my life. A safe place of protection and provision to count on in this very fickle world. Even when I am on shaky, unstable ground, the Lord is My Rock!
Be not silent to me:
The right to have communication allows us to seek His voice! My wife has been traveling to see her Mother in Florida, I expect her to pick up the cell phone and call me, because I desire to hear her voice. She did! I am a happy camper!
This is a valid request we should pray to the Lord! I always want to hear His voice! I desire to hear His voice, in the scriptures, in nature, in my heart, in his leading, in results of His hand moving. When God becomes silent, we should drop everything and search to find out why, confess our sins and see restoration.
It is rare that my wife and I fight! When it does happen, the hardest part is the silence. Silence makes us to re-examine our actions and make need corrections. I do not want my wife nor the Lord to be silent! I want constant communication!
Lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
I agree with this final summarising of this verse! If the line of communication with the Lord is not two way, if we find Him silent, or if we never hear His voice, We should check our Salvation to be sure we are in His family! If we are not in His family we have not right to expect any conversation with Him.
If you have never confessed (told) the Lord that you are a sinful man, that you need Him to forgive your sins, that you open your heart and soul to Him so He can live in and through you. You need to stop now and do so now!
You can simply pray this prayer, by believing the words you speak, and trusting the Lord to do His part. PRAY THIS PRAYER:
Dear Lord Jesus,
I confess that I am a guilty sinner and that I need to be saved.
I believe that you died on the cross to pay my sin debt.
Please forgive my sins, come into my heart and save my soul.
I turn my life over to you right now.
Help me to live for you the rest of my life. (Amen)
