No Slip! No Slide

Psalm 26:1
Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide.

The first four words of this verse, makes me to shudder to think that I might need to follow suit in repeating this confession. This verse is a total confession and can not be repeated in parts without loosing the powerful results and comfort it produces.

I find it very difficult to get past the first four words. I am under conviction as I contemplate the powerful implications that may come if in all honestly I cry out to God with these words, "Judge me, O Lord;"

Judge me, O Lord;

Any real relationship starts off with honesty, it will be enhanced with honesty, and will flourish with honesty. I desire to have a closer relationship with the Lord, but I find it difficult to rid my pride from my soul. I have no problem pointing out the flaws of others around me. I can tattle on the sins of my friends, relatives, and neighbors, but when it comes time for my own self examination, I shy away.

If I desire to grow and prosper in my daily walk with the Lord, I must ask the Lord to Judge me, and be willing to accept the judgment and correction to make it right.

For I have walked in my integrity:

It is one thing to be honest with others, it is a completely another thing to be honest with ourselves, and then another realm to be honest before God Almighty! To be able to even think about uttering this part of this verse one must determine to act honest, and be honest in the presence of the Lord.

I find these word are harder to consistently walk in. The Psalmist knew that in order for others to walk in integrity, we would need to be open to all criticism, especially from Heaven!

I have also trusted in the Lord; therefore I shall not slide.

What a bold statement. It encourages me to think that if I do my part, God will more than do His part. He will help me not to slide. I believe that if we take a trip to the side of God daily in honest reflection and confession of our sins, we will not slide away from him.

My Pastor always tells us to keep a short tab with the Lord! This is one way not to have to pay interest on the sins we commit.

As a Christian, I see our daily walk as a trip down the Interstate Highway. We must stay on the main road, and not exit off. I used to take about every exit that sin offered. As my walk and relationship with the Lord grows, I find that I take fewer and fewer exits. When I do exit into sin I try quickly to seek the judgment of the Lord to put me back on the right path.

NO SLIP! NO SLIDE! A-Men!!!
