The Aftermath Of Our Sin!

2 Samuel 12:13-14
And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.

We think we are so smart! We test the waters so to speak. We start small, by getting away with increasing frequency the sins that we commit by our own will! We justify them, and even think it must be alright because it just feels right!

Sin is a dangerous force! It always does more damage than we expect! Sin has an invisible wake to the initial fallout! Sin is a destructive force around us that is taking it's toll on the effort of the servants of God.

The context of our verse today is the tragic narrative of King David's sinful tryst! We see a pattern of sin, it started with a quick glance of one that is in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Sin takes the King from looking, to touching, conceiving, lying, cheating, deceiving, sabotage, to murder! Sin can be a quick slide that ruins the best made plans.

David hangs himself by revealing his anger over a story, not knowing he was setup, he declares that the offender deserved death. The man of God reveals that David himself is the offender, deserving death. God uses this indiscretion (sin) to peel David's hide. David repents and his life is spared.

God is in the business of forgiveness! God is so kind, merciful, and loving! He redeems us from our stupidly. He gives us more chances than we deserve.

Sin! has consequences. We would do well to think, before we act. Our sin has a number permanent results!

The consequences of sin.
David publicly admitted he sinned. The Judgment of his sin is two edged. Mercy and Mourning.

Mercy includes; sin is put away (forgiveness), Thou shalt not die. (a picture of eternal life)

Mourning includes; This deed gave great occasion to the enemies. (our enemy does not need any help from us) This deed gives credence to the enemy to prove that Christians are wacky! (this hurts the cause of Christ)

The child...shall surely die. (Our sin is passed on to the next generation). How tragic that our sin causes others to die!

As we go out today! Think about what our actions might do to the cause of Christ. May God have mercy on our sin sick lives!
