The fountian of long life

Proverbs 3:1-2
My son, forget not my law. but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall add to thee.

Since the first mortal died, man has endeavored to find a way to extend his own miserable life. I guess if I was to be honest, I would like to live a long, long time. I am reminded how quickly age has taken its toll on me just by looking into the mirror.

This morning, I am excited, my oldest son is bringing my grand kids for a visit. I wish to be around to see them grow up, get married, have kids of their own! I think that would make me Great Pe-Paw! (How cool would that be!).

God has provided a great map to the location of His fountain of long life:

1. The Command:
My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
God reminds us to be diligent in studying His word. We must constantly take in His word. We must be familiar and enjoy a working relationship with the Law of God. The law of God is our contract, to enjoy the most benefits, we must be able to find the promises, and protection of His Law.

It becomes easier to keep His commandments by becoming familiar with what God expects. We all do better if we know the rules ahead of time. Basically we feed the Word of God into our hearts and God does His work to help us keep His commandments. Sounds like a great trade off to me.

2. The Promise:
For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
The blessings of the hard work of ingesting the Word of God, is three fold. In short order God lays out a very simple plan and promise. He has given us His Word! He asks us to make a daily time of study of it! He promises to bless us in many ways

Length of days,
None of us knows the days we have! We are not specifically guaranteed how many days we get but, we are guaranteed length of days. I like to pack as much in every day as I can. I am amazed at the difference in the accomplishments I achieve when I spend time with the Lord in study of His word. If you need to accomplish a lot today, don't forget to start in the Word.

Long life,
I believe this promise is not only about quantity but is also about quality. I claim this promise for myself. In direct proportion to the time I spend in the Word of God, I can live a life increased with a quantity and quality.

And peace, shall they add to thee.
Studies have proven that if we live a life that is less stressful we live longer. The opposite of stress is peace.

The best medication for a stressful life is to take large doses of the Word of God, it will provide relief in the form of peace to the troubled soul.

We need to get into the Word of God! Are you blowing off the potential health benefits of a daily dose of God's Word?
