Colossians 2:7
Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
I need to mow again! I am sneaky, I drop the mower down as low as it will go in hopes that it will "burn" the grass out. My strategy never works, the grass always grows back. My grass has deep roots!
One thing is for sure every Christian will have occasions where our enemy will drop the mower deck to the lowest and run us over hoping to burn us out. The enemy can win if we do not have deep roots!
Deep roots is a must for the building process. God wants to establish in us a deep root system to keep us growing tall and strong.
Rooted and built up in him,
If you go to the local garden shop you will find thousands of products that promise results. If you purchase an inferior product it will destroy the whole yard. There are a lot of false items out there touting how if you use the packaged method your spiritual growth will pop overnight.
The Apostle gives the Biblical answer by prescribing Gods way for our growth. We must be exposed at the root level to the real deal, God's Holy Word. We must spend time with Him so the Word of God can coat us with its protection, establishing a healthy root.
Once we have a healthy root, we can then be exposed to the elements and the potential of being built up "In HIM!"
And stablished in the faith.
Faith is the hot house, an environment that promotes healthy growth. It establishes the plant so that it will thrive and prosper in any place it is put.
As Christians we need the time in the nursery of God to be "Stablished" so we can be effective anywhere God places us!
As ye have been taught.
While we are in the nursery of Gods love, we are in school. We learn our lessons and then we move out to do God's bidding. The best teacher is our Lord and creator.
Abounding therein with thanksgiving.
God is the master gardener, he fusses over each of his plants. (us) He has high hopes for us to bloom and cast the sweet smell of his salvation to the rest of this old world. When God blesses us and we grow we do all this with thanksgiving. I am thankful for the intensive care God gives me, I am abounding and thanking God along the way.
How deep are your roots?
