Psalms 32:1
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered
The longer I live the more I realize what sin has done and is doing in my life. I am aware of the effects of sin in my own life and can visibly see the effects in ordinary people I run across.
The weight of sin takes away the strength and happiness of everyone. This morning I want to deal with the negative and then the positive aspects of this verse. I pray that God would allow us all to see the full impact of this simple verse. May its full meaning bless your heart and soul!
Transgression:
After a quick check of the definition of this word I discovered a few twist I never expected.
Transgression is an act, and a process. I believe that we choose willingly to disobey and when we choose we devise a plan that keeps us locked in this evil habit of sin.
Transgression is further defined like this; infringement or violation of a law, command, or duty. Humans, (or at the very least, me) struggle to take our orders from God or for that matter anyone else. We fight the Idea of submission to another, it goes across the grain of our life.
We justify our own disobedience, and condemn others for the same violation.
An illustration is given that describes what happens in a flood, where mud, rocks, and filth is deposited in what was once clean. Sin leaves sediment that is hard to remove and in some cases it will permanently change the very landscape of our life.
Covered:
This word has some very interesting ideas behind it too! To be covered is defined with this idea; to guard from attack. Sin is an attack, but when our sin is covered by God we are guarded from further attacks.
Covered means to afford protection against new attacks.
I am a sinful man, I have been saved by grace, through faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am not perfect, and I live in a state of constant sin that bothers me, because I so want to NOT sin. I rejoice in this fact that my transgrssions are forgiven and my sin is covered.
I have transferred my transgression, my sins are covered! Are Yours!
