Increased Trouble?

Psalm 3:1
Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.

Are you the moody type! I can be! I have mood swings that makes most thrill rides look like kindergarten see-saws! David was a man that battled with the extreme mood shifts.

I believe if we are totally honest with ourselves, we would say that from time to time we do slip into these changing moods.

I often ask the soldiers to define the difference between major surgery, and minor surgery! I hear all kinds of answers! Most talk about things that would be risky and the loss of life could result if things go wrong. These are good answers and may be somewhat right, but the answer I have is more right than we want it to be. The difference between major surgery and minor surgery is; It is major surgery when I need it, and minor surgery when you need it!

We all face problems day by day! I have one of those framed things that states; "I try to take it one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once!"

Of course you need to read all eight verses of this psalm to get the full impact. "In this psalm David sweeps the scale of moodiness, from dark despair to calm confidence."

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me.

It is a fact of life that sooner or later we will be backed into a corner from the overload of our mind, due to the attacks of the enemy. If you ever watched one of those animal shows where a small animal will swell up, or make their hair bushy, or stand on the hind legs to appear bigger than they really are, the enemy of our soul plays the same tricks on us.

We all will feel that the war is about to wipe us out. Like David, we should constantly tell it to the Lord. When I lack the confidence to go on, I go to the Lord for encouragement and strength.

Many are they that rise up against me.

We will always encounter a resistance when we are doing what the Lord wants us to do. It is never easy to keep at it. When the forces of opposition rears it ugly head, we know we have alerted the enemy that God is moving in on it's territory. That will spark an increase, and the enemy will throw many in our path to success!

From verse 3 to verse 8 look at the resources to combat the mood swing
V-3 A shield for me
V-3 My glory
V-3 The lifter up of my head

V-4 I cried - He heard

V-5 I laid down and slept - the Lord sustained me

V-6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands

V-7 O Lord; save me - Thou smitten all mine enemies

V-8 Salvation belongeth unto the Lord - thy blessing is upon thy people!

The best part of this study is that when we think all is lost, when our mood swings to the dark side, we have a formula to swing it back to the calm confident side because God is on our side.

Do you have increased trouble?
