Psalm 2:1
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
It is football season again! I have witnessed the furry and hype that is usually associated with "Kick off"! North, south, east, or west, you probably have your favorite team. If you are a fan (short for fanatic) you allow your blood pressure to elevate as you tout your opinion why your team will win the championship! It does not matter if your are into college football, or professional football the reactions are the same!
I am attempting to blog on each of the first verses of Psalms. In order to understand this you need to read the whole chapter and study it in light of future times. We should realize that this psalm is about the time just prior to the return and reign of our Lord Jesus Christ.
If we carefully look at the current events of the day we can vaguely see the shift towards the necessary alliances in the Geo-political world. It can not be long before our Lord and Savior steps out on the clouds and calls us home to be with Him!
The timely battle is heating up God on the one side and Satan on the other. The war is escalating day by day.
We see a picture of a classic grid iron brawl. Both sides have their followers, their fans! The strategic plans have been made, and the arm chair quarterbacks have submitted their own versions of how to win. Then we see the Psalmist asking a rhetorical question!
Why do the heathen rage?
Christians have a great advantage over their counterparts the heathens! We have the completed account of how this season will end! We already know how it will turn out, and how the play by play will be executed! The statistics have already been entered into the books and can be analyzed right now!
But, the heathen rage! The loosing team attempts to pump life into the dead offense, and wish that their defence would be able to do the job. They have wagered all they have on this game, they know that it is sudden death, with no chance for a repeat or rematch. The reason the heathen rage is to convince themselves that what has already been written in the history books is not and will not be true! They fool themselves.
And the people imagine a vain thing?
People are like Ostrages, that stick their heads in the sand when confronted unexpectedly! People avoid the obvious, We do not want to deal with things in the real world, but choose to imagine a way out of the hardships that await!
The heathen are such people, they have shouted and cheered the loosing team, they are witnessing their team loose ground each play, they will not look at the scoreboard because the score is fixed, and they fall into the imaginary world of "This can't be happening, this can't be happening!"
I am thankful that the Lord Jesus Christ has offered to every one the opportunity to trust His sacrificial act upon the cross to secure their salvation. I am thankful that I was able to secure the assurance of eternal life in the shedding of Jesus blood!
I pray that the heathen and the people that are currently cheering for the wrong team, sees their error and converts to the winning side!
