Psalm 14:1
How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
As I looked at this verse I thought, "What a rhetorical statement!" Everything within me screamed, I know that this bold statement is not right, God has given me all the theological proof that He would never forget me, He would never leave me waiting for ever. God would never hide His face from me! But the reality of my own experience is just the opposite.
I am saved, born again. I am a redeemed child of God. I have an on-going day by day long term relationship with my Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. I know how to use the precious Word of God to feed my own soul, as well as lead others to His saving grace. I firmly believe and proclaim the fact of the eternal promises that God would never forget me, nor would He ever forsake me. Yet at times my human reasoning and feelings secretly cry out the very words of the Psalmist!
Because of my sinful nature I have times of self pity and use these terms to bring attention to myself. I often feel like I don't matter, I don't count for anything profitable, I make the statement to God, "How long wilt thou for get me?" This is the time I can go to the Word of God and hear His voice say to me, "My son! I will NEVER! leave you, nor forsake you" I know He loves me!
I have times that I wonder if the Lord cares, does He understand, why does it seem that he has His face hid from me. Again I go to the word of God to see that I can know that when I have confessed any sin in my life, and have repented of the lifestyle that led me to sin in the first place, God will restore the relationship He desires for us. He promises to look me eye to eye.
I do not understand why I know the promises of God, and yet like the Psalmist state the very opposite. May God help me when I feel far away!
If you feel far away from God, Go to His Word to shore up the eroding foundation of your soul!

Been there, Brother Bob. I am so amazed when after thinking and feeliing that God is nowhere in sight in relation to some (overblown)problem I have, He orchestrates a resolution that I could never even dream of. Thank you Lord for loving us and caring for us even when we can't seem to grasp it!
ReplyDeleteGood message this morning, sir.
