A Joyful Noise?

Psalm 66:1
Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye Lands:

I have heard this verse quoted a lot by over anxious music directors, wishing to fill the choir loft. The encouragement sounds like this; "anyone can make a joyful noise unto God!" I do not think this is a wrong use of the verse, however, I do believe that the meaning of this verse is so much deeper than singing a song or two.

Make a joyful noise unto God,

If you look up each word of this verse in a dictionary, you will find a wealth of applications.
  • Make; to bring into existence by shaping or changing; to produce, cause, or appoint. to convert from one state to another. to become by development. to serve as. to move or proceed in a particular direction.

  • Joyful; full of joy, as a person or ones heart; glad or delighted. showing or expressing joy, as looks, actions, or speech. causing or bringing joy, as an event, a sight, or news.

  • Noise; a sound of any kind, to spread as a report, to talk much or publicity

We are to Make a Joyful Noise unto God! I am convicted that I fall short in so many areas of this great command. Are you?

All ye lands.

No one is exempt! The Lord Jesus Christ died to redeem the whole world, we should be about the business of making a joyful noise to "All... lands! What have you done in this matter of eternal cause?
